National Identification Number has been made compulsory by the Federal Government of Nigeria to Nigerians. For over six months, Nigerians across the country have been registering their mobile numbers and connecting it to their identification numbers. This is done in order to get accurate statistics and profiles of Nigerians.
In compliance to that development, the Kano State Government has mandated that every student in the state register and get their National Identification Number (NIN) as soon as possible as without that pupils would not be allowed to write any entrance examination. The Commissioner for Education also made it known that officials from National Identity Management Commission would soon be in schools to take details from every child that would be taking upcoming examinations.
He also stated why the registration is important stating that it would be used for proper documentation and record keeping and in the elimination of the records of rising examination malpractices in the state.
According to NIMC directive in registration for minors, parents are advised to make available the following documents: Birth Certificate, Age Declaration, School ID Card, NHIS ID Card, Nigerian Passport, Attestation Letter.
Asides partaking in the examination, the National Identification Number (NIN) can also be helpful when: Opening bank accounts, payment of taxes, getting driver's license, obtaining international passport and application and many others.
