Akpabio Commended By UN For Sustaining Peace

 Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and now Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, God's will Akpabio in his office welcomed the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and one time Minister of Environment, Hajia Amina Mohammed. In her visit, she commented on the impact of Akpabio on the state especially in terms of maintaining and sustaining peace in the Niger Delta region. In her speech to the minister she recalled that the region was often a cause for headache when she was in office as minister and that she as well as the United Nations are glad to finally see that peace is now existing in that part of the country.


In response to her commendations, he revealed the strategy that has been implemented to fight insecurities in the region. According to him, the implementation of a system called Strategic Implementation Work Plan has helped in creating infrastructural projects and also in the security challenges that once faced that region. He also disclosed plans by his ministry that would happen before the end of his tenure like the commissioning of the East West road and when quizzed if the Niger Delta region would join their southern counterpart in any secessionist movement, he emphazised that the south south region are interested in no such movements that would lead to disintegration of the country's unity.
